Michigoose's gander at quilts & life: Lost Quilt Come Home

What a heartbreaker, to visit the lost quilts site and see the missing quilts! I wish Claudia good luck on the return of her quilt. Oh my goodness, who knew there were so many lovingly made quilts gone missing! Some of them are here in California, not very far from me.

It will be flagged for our moderators to take action. It really surprises me that more quilt shows don’t employ magnetic tamper alarms. I usually bring my own and insist they use it … I put on after judging, of course. Reach out to your own connections and let them know – have your friends help spread the word.

DIY Christmas Holiday Stockings You Can Quilt

I have instructed all of them to label, no matter how awesome the quilt is, or how ordinary, so they can have a record of their work. The younger girl is already working on her #2 quilt and planning what she will write on that label. I am so glad I learned that labels are an absolute part of ANY quilt that leaves my hands. Am so happy to see this one returned to one of the makers. Lost Quilt Come Home in hopes to reunite more lost quilts with their owners.

It is my go to fix when my back, hips or knees start to act up. The ankle pads on my teeter are curved and covered with thick foam and I only recline back enough to feel the release in my spine not fully upside down, the benefit is the same. I also discovered Essentrics Age Reversing workouts and the Pain Relief workout is awesome. Cool I am making homemade soup in the crockpot too...because a friend who is visiting and I are off to a day of sewing. Keeping your Quilts from Being Stolen

Bernice felt that this quilt needed to go home and that she wanted my help in finding out what happened that it ended up in a second hand store. I made a color copy of the label. Silly me, I didn't take a picture of the quilt. It was a square lap size quilt approximately 50" x 50".

Use quilt hangers or tubes on the back of the quilt so it can’t just be lifted off the hanger and folded up. Add additional safety pins on the hanger tubes to secure, and not make it easy to slide right off. On the quilt are pictures of dresses and names, all stitched with care.

Kim’s name is also signed on the back of the quilt under the label. The label is appliqued to the bottom right corner. She graciously answered questions for me to share with you here.

From a quilt historian’s standpoint, it would be wonderful if quilters kept a file folder or envelope for each quilt they made, especially if it is an heirloom-quality quilt. Do not leave a quilt in plain sight even in your locked car. Don’t just leave it in a duffel or bag making it look like it is some other precious cargo worth stealing. Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, Google+ and everywhere I have a profile asking folks to PLEASE Forward, re-post, share and spread this information. And you won’t believe the response it got. There is a quilt that I learned about early this morning.

I had a quilt stolen from the lobby of a building where was having a show. One of my on-line friends sent me the link to "Lost Quilt" and imagine my surprise to find that Maria is a member of my local guild...and a fabulous quilter/artist also. Thank you Maria, both for taking the time to share with us AND in making the "Lost Quilt Come Home" website available to us. Hopefully, you won't see my quilt on your website and that people will be able to find theirs. Most of us would not want our quilts ending up in a second hand store. Tell your family what you want done with your quilts when you pass away.

The web site has numerous articles that give ideas for ways to protect quilts. I typically allow quilt guilds to reprint the articles free of charge once they ask permission. Here’s a summary of a few of them. And before anyone says “inexcusable”…..they handle nearly 16 MILLION packages A DAY. The Chicago CACH handles 1.5 million alone.
